I’ve been dreading writing this one – not because I don’t like Equinox, or even because I think I can’t do her justice, but more because she’s probably the most complicated warframe of them all… Anyway, with that said, here we go…
Equinox was created around the concept of duality, and specifically in the contrast between day and night. In this way, she’s actually two warframes in one – her day form allowing for one set of Abilities, and her night form, another. This gives her multiple roles, or players could choose to build her for something very specific…
Note: Building Equinox requires players to build her two forms (day and night) individually first, then use those to construct Equinox herself. For this reason, players need to farm for 8 blueprints (day aspect plus 3 components and the night aspect plus 3 components). These are all farmed individually from Tyl Regor on Uranus, all with a somewhat equal drop rate of 12-13%. The Equinox blueprint is purchasable from the market… yay.
Metamorphosis is the only Ability in Equinox’s kit that has the same name in both forms, so we’ll cover it together. Of course, the name gives away the Ability – casting will change Equinox from her existing form to the other (note that light energy colours will kick off missions in Day mode, while darker energy colours will start her off in Night mode). Still, depending on which mode she is changing to, there will be a different effect.
Day form: Equinox will gain access to Rage, Provoke, and Maim Abilities. She also gains 25% weapon Damage and 15% movement speed, which lasts 25 seconds.
Night form: Equinox will gain access to Rest, Pacify, and Mend Abilities. She also gains 250 Armor and 150 Shields, which lasts for 25 seconds.
Rest & Rage
Cast on a single enemy up to 50m away, this enemy will be enraged, as will any enemies within 5m of the target. As a result, they will receive 20% attack and movement speed bonuses, but will take 50% additional Damage. This lasts for 22 seconds.
Rage is affected by Ability Strength, Duration, and Range mods.
Cast on a single enemy up to 50m away, this enemy will be put to sleep, as will any enemies within 5m of the target. All affected enemies will remain asleep for 22 seconds, or until their Health is drained to below 50%. While sleeping, they will of course be open to melee finishers.
Rest is affected by Ability Duration and Range mods.
Pacify & Provoke
Equinox releases an aura of energy in a radius of 16m. All allies within this Range receive a buff of 20% to Ability Strength, at the cost of 3 Energy per cast (this cost is to the Equinox that casts the Ability). The Ability will remain active until Equinox runs out of Energy or casts Metamorphosis/Provoke again, but only drains on each cast of Ability (for Equinox and her allies). Keep in mind that Provoke will increase the Damage output of all her other Abilities as well…
Provoke is affected by Strength and Range mods.
Equinox releases an aura of energy in a radius of 16m. All allies within this Range receive a Damage reduction of 50% at the cost of 0.5 Energy per enemy per second. Keep in mind that the Damage reduction falls off over the Range of the Ability (16m base at max). The Ability will remain active until Equinox runs out of Energy or casts Metamorphosis/Pacify again.
Pacify is affected by Strength and Range mods.
Mend & Maim
Maim (which is a cool name for an Ability, by the way) is a drain Ability that surrounds Equinox in a cloud of tiny little razors. At least, that’s my guess. Enemies within 18m will receive 150 Slash Damage per second with 100% Status Chance, and will also be stunned – but note that this will only occur once per enemy. In addition, 75% of the Damage to Health and Shields is stored within Equinox, and is released as a massive burst of Slash Damage when the Ability comes to an end (either by running out of Energy or deactivating the Ability using her first Ability or recasting). Note that Equinox’s passive is on pause while this Ability is active (naturally, as it is a drain Ability).
Maim is affected by Strength and Range mods.
Mend is a drain Ability that surrounds Equinox in a cloud of tiny little doctors. At least, that’s my guess. Teammates within 18m will receive 25 Shield per enemy killed within the aura – once the Shield is full, it will begin to be stored as overshield. In addition, 75% of the Damage to Health and Shields is stored within Equinox, and is distributed as Shields and Health between Equinox and teamates – including companions – when the Ability comes to an end (either by running out of Energy or deactivating the Ability using her first Ability or recasting). Note that Equinox’s passive is on pause while this Ability is active (naturally, as it is a drain Ability).
Mend is affected by Strength and Range mods.
Equinox’s passive, Equilibrium, has the same effect as the mod of the same name – that is, it converts 10% of Health orbs into Energy, and 10% of Energy orbs into Health.
Also, as mentioned earlier in this article, Equinox’s warframe energy colour determines whether or not she starts missions in Day or Night form – light colours for Day form, darker colours for Night form.
Equinox is a complex frame, but for my money, her Day form is far more useful than her Night form. Of course, Crowd Control and Damage Reduction are both very useful themselves, but it really depends on whether or not you want to be support or DPS. While it is entirely plausible to switch between forms, it can become confusing, and only players that really spend the time with her can become true masters of duality. That said, each of her forms has quite good utility, and effectively can use the same builds to great effect.
