Weapon 101 – Volnus

volnus tips warframe

Gleaming like it’s owner, Volnus is the signature melee weapon of glass master Gara. This hammer-class armament features two large glass blades sharpened to slice through your foes.

How to Acquire

The Volnus is locked behind MR4. Upon reaching this rank, you will be able to grab the blueprint from the Market for 20,000 credits or prebuilt for 200 platinum. The materials aren’t difficult to get – you’ll be able to pick up most of it when you get to Venus, including the decent chunk of Cyrotic. The gating material will be the pair of Argon Crystals usually found in the Void. If you don’t have access, they will also pop up in Alerts fairly often. Usually, you can often find a squad headed that way for a lift as well.

Stats

volnus stats

True to its form, the Volnus is doubled-edged when it comes to stats. Its lightweight construction makes it the current leader for Attack Speed of the hammer-class. As the scales usually tip, its great speed means it does not hit as hard as its slower counterparts. Currently, only the Magistar has a lower base damage, so you’ll definitely need to tune your mods to make it shine. Coming in with a Madurai (V) polarity, it’s prepped for a nice damage mod to get its numbers up.

Crit or Status?

Volnus falls into the camp of build for Status. While it has a decent Critical Chance, with a base Status Chance of 30%, you can bring it to 100 with the right mods. With its innate Slash damage bias, it is a great candidate for Viral to cut max health and allow the Slash Proc to drain what remains.

The Volnus is a fun weapon that tends to get overlooked due to its low damage, which gives it good Disposition. If you’re able to mod it up for Status Chance and combo with Condition Overload or a great Riven, you’ll slice through foes quickly while your mates are still getting their first swings in.
