Weapon 101 – Heat Sword / Dual Heat Swords / Heat Dagger

heat sword tips warframe

The Heat Sword, Heat Dagger, and Dual Heat Swords are early game blades imbued with Heat Damage, making them effective against Flesh. These three Melee Weapons are fairly similar, so you have the option to tune to your playstyle or try out some new ones.

How to Acquire

The different members of the trio here are obtained in different ways, but all require MR0, so there’s no restrictions there. First, to obtain the Heat Sword you just need to work on your quests. Its Blueprint is a reward for completing Once Awake so you’ll receive it pretty early. Alternatively, you can pick the Blueprint up through the Nightwave Offerings by cashing in some Nightwave Creds. To build, you’ll need some Neural Sensors, so you’ll need to get access or taxi’d to Jupiter, at least.

The Dual Heat Swords Blueprint may be purchased from the Market for 15,000, but unlike its brethren it does not require Neural Sensors or Circuits. You’ll need some Salvage and Morphics, so Mars is your gating planet for this build.

Stats by Variant

As these are all early game weapons, their stats are not the greatest in the long run. As a result though, not being used normally in mid and late game, they all have a very high Riven Disposition, so there is potential out there. The Heat Sword and Dual Heat Swords are predominantly Slash with 44 and 45 base Damage respectively. The Heat Dagger is mainly Puncture with a base Damage of 45. All three also release a ring of fire on Slam Attacks, dealing Heat Damage around you. All three come with a Naramon (-) Polarity setting them up for boosting that Heat Damage. Note though, unlike its counterparts, the Dual Heat Swords does not have a Stance Polarity – curiously enough, it is currently the only Melee Weapon to not have one.

Crit or Status?

Starting with the Heat Sword, you’ll want to build this for Status Chance. Counter to its low Damage, it is actually has one of the highest base Status Chance coming in at 20% for Single Swords. With only a base 5% Critical Chance, you’ll want to focus on landing those Status Procs.

You can mod the Heat Dagger pretty much in either direction. Unfortunately, that is because it has very low Critical and Status Chance, with both just having a base of 5%. You may want to consider modding just for raw Damage and Attack Speed to get as much DPS out of this Dagger as you can.

The Dual Heat Swords are in a similar position. With a base Critical Chance of 5% and Status Chance of 10% you can tune this in either direction without giving up much. Similar to the Heat Dagger, focusing on raw DPS may be the way to go.

They may not be the strongest blades available, but they are still formidable for new Tenno. Of the three, the Heat Sword stands apart with its high base Status Chance. Needing to be bought with Nightwave Creds, the Heat Dagger does have a fairly high cost for its strength. Considering how early on you’ll go through Once Awake, it’s worth waiting for that rather than spending Nightwave Creds on the Heat Sword. And if you don’t want to wait, consider grabbing the Dual Heat Swords early on.

NOTE: the promo code HEATSWORD is still active, so if you want this free early on (with a catalyst pre-installed AND a free weapon slot), head on over to the Warframe Promo Codes page and redeem!
